Buongiorno tutti! We left Venice today to head to Arezzo and
the day started at the wonderful hour of 3:00 in the morning!
Yeah, you know how sometimes you know you have to wake up
early, so you set your alarm and go to sleep, only to wake up every hour
checking to make sure you haven’t overslept? That happened to me this morning.
We had to have our bags out by 7:45 am, and I kept waking up thinking that I
had overslept. So now I’m exhausted. C’est la vie.
On the plus side, we did not have to carry our own luggage
back to the bus. I’m pretty sure I heard some of the other girls sob in joy.
Especially considering the amount of shopping that happened in Venice.
The bus was late by…well, a lot, but finally we left Venice…
It was a dark, stormy...morning.
…and made our way (4 hour long way) to Arezzo.
Landscape.
Once we got here, we had about an hour to grab some lunch
and get ourselves situated before we headed out to the OU Arezzo Student Center
for our quick orientation. We went over all of the normal stuff (blah blah
don’t get blackout drunk blah blah don’t go places alone blah blah just don’t
be an idiot) and then had free reign to do as we pleased. And that was going
back to the hotel and trying to organize room changes. (No less than 4 girls
cried.)
Then we met up for dinner at this lovely restaurant and got
to have a legitimate 5-course meal. It consisted of:
Course 1: Assorted sauces/fish/stuff on bread
Course 2: Tortellini
Course 3: Tagliatelle
Course 4: Pot roast (no, seriously. I’m pretty sure that’s
what it was)
Course 5: Lemon cake (So. Good.)
Leanna is the resident director here and she is the sweetest
lady. She took us to dinner and was a great font of information about Arezzo
and how to travel around Italy. Picture later.
So after dinner we headed back to the hotel, where we
desperately searched for Internet and I attempted to update this blog. So be
grateful all my ‘faithful followers’ (I don’t think I actually have that many…),
for I have made the effort for you! ^_^
Interesting Stories of the Day:
- During the bus ride, we took a break at a gas station, and everyone got off excluding Melinda and me. Including the bus driver. So he told us to pull the emergency door switch if we needed to break out of the bus for some reason. But since he locked it when he got off, all the people coming back to the bus were forced to wait outside. I agonized over whether or not it was okay to use the emergency latch, and right as I was about to maybe do it, the bus driver came back. True story.
- Also, for all you music lovers out there, Arezzo is the home of Guido Monaco, the monk who invented the notation system for music. So I think that’s pretty awesome.
The hills were alive with sound of music. Monk win.
Buonanotte tutti! A domani!
