Buonasera tutti! I am very tired and very ready for
sleep, but first I will give you a quick update on today. Also, shout out to my
Dad for Father's Day! You are super cool and I love and miss you!
So I woke up at 5:30 this morning, due to the sun
coming through the window. So that was fun. I moved around to grab my phone and
see what time it was, which then woke Elizabeth up, who was not happy. Very not
happy.
So we went back to sleep, woke up at 9:00, got
ready, went and had breakfast (all of which was covered in powdered sugar, by
the way) and then took the shuttle from our hotel in the mountains down into
downtown Sorrento. But first, some pictures.
Random city ruins in downtown.
Basically all we did in Sorrento was try to shop
and take some cool pictures. After wandering around for about three hours, we grabbed
some gelato and headed to the train station. Then we jumped on the metro to
Napoli (about an hour), waited for our train to Rome (45 minutes), rode that
train to Roma Termini (about an hour), and then took the train from Rome to
Arezzo (an hour and 45 minutes).
Getting to Arezzo, we immediately found some food
at Ristoburger (real cheeseburgers. SO GOOD.) and then dragged ourselves to our
hotel. We switched rooms over the weekend now that some other OU people have
gone, so we have a whole new shower situation. This one has its own room and
everything, but I feel like I could do lunges or something in it. This thing is
massive. I'd show y'all some pictures, but everyone is using it. So no.
Interesting Stories of the Day:
- Our shuttle driver down the mountain serenaded us. With 'Time to Say Goodbye'. And this little old Italian lady helped him. It was beautiful.
- When I was going to find a gift for my mother, this shopkeeper was extremely helpful. Not only did he make all of his things by hand, but his wife helped run the store. And they're both in their 70's. Then, when I was short on money, he walked me to the nearest ATM and stood watch while I withdrew money. So he was cool.
- The lemons in Sorrento are huge. And by huge, I mean giant. Some are as big as your head. They sell tons of lemon-related paraphernalia, so Elizabeth bought some lemon-scented soap and Melinda bought some limoncello for her sister-in-law. (Limoncello is alcoholic lemonade, in case you didn't know.)
These giant lemons were a bit on the small side.
- Also, when we got on the train from Napoli to Rome, we had one seat left in our section of four. And a nun took it. So that was awesome.
A dopo!
